3 different kinds of logistics today

If you aim to know more about how your products are transferred across the world, then this post is for you.

The largest form of global cargo and freight transportation is seaborne, so it is one of the most eye-catching for investors and firms wanting to break into the market. This form of transport is so commonly used because of the sheer size of the ships used to move products, which also entails a cheaper cost to the customer wanting to move the goods. The cargo on ships can vary hugely, with the most common being commodities and materials that are heavy or there is a tremendous volume that needs shipping. Sometimes however, top freight companies are commissioned to carry unusually large or odd shaped objects such as wind turbines. Most of the biggest logistics companies have some footing in the sea freight sector because it is so lucrative, such as the French logistical company lead by Vincent Bolloré; the firm does engage in the construction and operation of the port terminals that freight liners use.

There are many different sorts of logistical transport, and the most frequent and regularly used for short distances is by road. As many non-industrial logistics is in the form of transport to small businesses and homes, they are only reachable by van or truck. Whilst this is not the fastest or most reliable form of transport, it is one of the most vital; without it there would be no way for the goods we all require to be supplied to almost every shop. These are the main factors why there are more logistics jobs in this sector than any other. Another factor is of course that it calls for the least tuition and know-how, for all one needs is a driving license for the particular vehicle. As this field is so needed, frequently used and easily available, it means there are many organisations that compete in the sector. Chairmen such as Iain Ferguson lead businesses that are well established in the market, so are trusted and can keep much of their business.

Products are bought and sold from places on the other side of the world, so distinctly there must be some way to transport these products from the seller to the buyer. The quickest, but most expensive form of logistics, by plane, is perfect for individuals in an intercontinental transaction. As this form of transportation is the most expensive, there are less firms that provide the service than in other forms, such as trucking. The relatively high barriers to entry that exist in air transportation, it means that just the biggest logistics companies can participate in the market. Richard Forson is president and CEO of one of the largest air freight companies in Europe and in the world. Many cargo that is transferred by airplane is either very expensive or urgent due to the minimal space offered on a plane.
